When IC patients flare, it can be quite overwhelming to walk, much less embark on a fitness program. Running and/or typical aerobics classes, for example, can exacerbate symptoms. However, walking that keeps the hits more level and swimming are potential alternatives. Given the predisposition that many patients have towards pelvic muscle tightness, exercises that strengthen the stomach can also be difficult.
